From Windows to Linux: Running Business Central the 'Wrong' Way
They say Business Central only runs on Windows. We say: why not challenge that?
In this session, we'll take you through a bold experiment — running Business Central on Linux using Docker and Wine. No VMs, no emulation, just a refusal to accept that things must be done the way they've always been. We'll walk through how we got it working, where it got weird, and why it's more than just a tech stunt.
Because here's the thing: this setup doesn't just work — it brings benefits. Faster test pipelines, fewer resource demands, and the freedom to run on lower-spec hardware. For local devs, build agents, and lean environments, this could open up a whole new world.
If this is possible without official support, imagine what could be achieved if Microsoft made the Service Tier truly Linux-compatible. We're not just breaking the rules — we're asking if the rules still make sense.
And who knows — could this even pave the way for full dev environments in Codespaces or devcontainers someday?
